Tips on How to Give a Maid of Honor Speech

Tags: toasts & speeches, etiquette

For those who are blessed with this ability to deliver a speech impromptu, this is not for you. But running your eyes down this article does not hurt either. It contains few tips and tricks that help to make an easy and funny maid of honor speech, in minimal time frame.

The first and foremost thing to remember in delivering a speech – or preparing one – is to understand the context and occasion in which you are actually going to do the talking. In other words, see things in perspective. A collection of words and a collage of quotes and usages do not constitute a speech in any world. It has to be specific and meaningful.

The maid of honor speech has to be funny, and at the same time with the right mix of emotions. Recollect some of the funny moments happened between you and the bride, and tell her how much your friendship means to you. The speech can include any moderately ‘embarrassing moments you shared with the bride or any funny habit of the bride, which now the groom have to live with, or couple of words of advice to the couple. Even though, this is a maid of honor speech, it must give proper weight age to the groom as well, and this must be done in a seamless manner. Think about it in advance.

The speech should last more than five minutes – around 750 words – but must not be too long drawn out either. End of the day, the guests must be able to enjoy your words fully.

As it is said practice makes perfect, speak out the speech a number of times before the actual occasion. Ideally, this must be done few days in advance. It is also a good idea to show the speech written by you to others and include their ideas/suggestions as well.
