If you have ever
dreamed of getting married at an exotic and beautiful local, then a destination
wedding may be for you. More and more individuals are opting out of traditional
weddings and instead are choosing to be married at popular, vacation spots.
Destination weddings were once only available to the rich. But today, more and
more common folks are discovering the benefits of a destination wedding.
People choose destination weddings for various reasons. Some common reasons
include the opportunity to be wed in lush, lavish surroundings and the relative
inexpensive compared to traditional weddings. Others choose a destination
wedding because they are often more intimate. This is in part, because many
guests will not be able to travel to destination wedding locations. Typically,
only the most important family and friends make the trip. In fact, many times
only the bridegroom and bride are present.
Destination weddings may also be a bit easier to plan than traditional weddings.
This is because many hotels and resorts have special wedding packages
pre-designed for individuals seeking a destination wedding, and are able to
ensure that events are pulled off both beautifully and smoothly. One may also be
surprised to learn that destination weddings can also be cheaper than
traditional weddings. If you consider the cost for travel, the dress and
reception you may assume that the costs would be exorbitant. However, in many
cases, they can be relatively affordable. This is because many resorts and
hotels have wedding packages that are all-inclusive, allowing many more people
the ability to afford a destination wedding.
However, even with all of the perks, a destination wedding is not without its
special considerations. One must consider a budget when deciding where they
would like to have their wedding. Certain locations will obviously be more
expensive. Individuals must also be considerate of the guest list. This is
because most people will not be able to afford to transport themselves and their
families overseas for destination weddings. One has to be able to be fine with
having a smaller wedding, and only having those who are closest to them in
attendance.
There are also some small but very important details to consider. These include
obtaining a passport if you have chosen to get married in a foreign country, as
well as properly purchasing a marriage license. Determining if a specific locale
requires blood tests, immunization records or a doctor certificate prior to
being able to be married, is also important. One must also determine if there
are any relevant waiting periods, if they are required to have a certain number
of witnesses, or if there are any residency requirements prior to becoming
married.
A destination wedding has many perks, the opportunity to be married in a
gorgeous and exotic locale is probably the most obvious one. However, there are
some special considerations that must be taken into account, namely, where one
would like to be married, whether guests can afford the trip, and the legal
marital requirements of the locale. Destination weddings definitely have an
upside and obvious advantages. However, one must be comfortable with the
disadvantages. A less attended wedding is one of the most glaring ones. A
destination wedding is definitely worth considering and those who choose to be
married in such a manner rarely regret it.
