Family Wedding Dresses: Something Old

Tags: attire, accessorries, wedding dress

Shopping for wedding dresses is likely one of the most difficult things that a woman will ever do. Every woman wants to look beautiful on their wedding day but also feel comfortable in their dress. There are a lot of different options to choose from and many women feel as though current styles just don’t fit their body type right. Going into a bridal boutique is overwhelming for every woman, but many are steering clear of these places and going with something old but something beautiful.

Family wedding dresses are often offered to women who have become engaged. While many women know exactly what they want and they can go out and get it at just about any bridal boutique, others want something more classic. More and more women are opting to wear the wedding dresses of their mother, grandmother, aunts, or other special women in their lives. This is a great way to get that classically styled dress and also a nice way to bring past generations into the present at the wedding.

Old family wedding dresses can often be preserved very well. Some women were smart enough to have their dressed cleaned and pressed and boxed after wearing them many years ago and they can now hand them down to their daughters and grand daughters to be worn again. Other gowns that were not preserved as nicely still stand a chance at going down the aisle again as there are many dry cleaners and gown preservationists that have developed techniques that will restore wedding dresses to their original beauty and allow them to be worn with pride.

Many women love some of the old family wedding dresses that are offered to them because of the detail that they offer. Many of the old wedding dresses feature hand sewn beads and buttons that are just not seen as often as they used to be. Most of the gowns today that feature these characteristics are very pricey and not affordable to the average bride and groom. Wearing an old gown that looks great with these features is something that appeals to many brides and it is happening more and more often.

The idea of wearing old family dresses down the aisle is very romantic. Wearing a gown of your mothers or grandmothers or other family member will also fulfill the need to wear something old as well as something borrowed. A new veil and shoes and a blue garter is all that is needed to complete the ensemble nicely!
